Badminton Net shots

Something to always keep in mind with net shots is a birdie should be hit as soon as possible, if the birdie comes high a good smash can be done at the highest possible point, creating a closed acute angle and putting the opponent on the defensive, without the opportunity to attack.

When a birdie can't be reached above the net, a precise net shot is used, using a relaxed grip; both a backhand and forehand will do which ever is faster, reaching the birdie as high as possible is more important that changing from backhand to forehand.

Common net shot mistakes
Some players insist on using a tight grip and stiff arm when approaching a net shot, which usually causes the birdie to bounce higher than what is really needed to clear the net. This shouldn't be compared to a clear shot, barely skimming the net is enough to not allow the opponent to smash.
