   1.
      Written notification to the Badminton Canada Office by the provincial association of:
         1.
            Name(s) of person(s) wishing to be examined or re-examined.
         2.
            Verification of:
               1.
                  successful completion of the provincial written examinations.
               2.
                  at least three (3) years experience as a provincial official with at least 50 umpired/service judged matches in each of the last two years. In this regard a summary of matches worked must be submitted to Badminton Canada
               3.
                  confirmation that the person wishing to write the exam is a member in good standing of the Provincial Association.
   2.
      Identification by Badminton Canada Office of the site, date and examining committee.
   3.
      Arrangements for testing to be forwarded to the candidate by the Badminton Canada Office.
   4.
      The travel cost to attend a testing site is the responsibility of the applicant or is Member Association. In some instances the accommodation cost and/or a per diem may be covered by the host committee of the testing event.
   5.

      The testing session will consist of:
         1.
            a three (3) hour, closed book, written examination.
         2.
            ½ to 1hour oral evaluation, discussing case studies needing interpretation or ruling by an official.
         3.
            extensive observations of the candidate in a wide variety of matches (early rounds, semis, and finals.)
         4.
            individuals conference with the chief examiner, discussing:
               1.
                  written exam
               2.
                  oral evaluation
               3.
                  on-court observation
               4.
                  identify pass or fail
         5.
            Note: A candidate for full testing may not be a player in the test event as the candidate is expected to work during the entire tournament. In the case of partial re-testing the candidate may be a player in the tournament provided pre-approval is received from the Examiner.
   6.
      Two (2) examiners will be present; one (1) will be identified as the chief examiner.
   7.
      A candidate who passes will become an “Accredited” umpire and receive a copy of the National Officials Handbook and Badminton Canada current Operational Manual.
      As previously noted, purchase of approved dress apparel is the responsibility of each official.
   8.
      National Accredited Umpire is the lower level of the National Umpire recognized by the Badminton Canada Officials Committee, with demonstrated capability to umpire matches at competitions in the national calendar.
   9.
      A candidate who fails either the whole exam, or either the written, oral or on-court portion of the exam, must wait a minimum of one (1) year to be re-tested. Normally two (2) new examiners will be selected for the reassessment.
  10.
      Following a minimum of two (2) years experience, an “Accredited” National Umpire may apply to the National Officials Committee for assessment to ensure technical competency has been maintained or improved, and if found satisfactory, shall be upgraded to a “Certificated” National Umpire. Any National Championship or Domestic Ranking event may be used for this assessment.
  11.
      National Certificated Umpire is higher grade of National Umpire recognized by Badminton Canada Officials Committee, with demonstrated capability to umpire at all matches of the most important competitions on the national calendar, including selected international competitions held in Canada.
